The Mother Code

"It passed the Pottery Barn test," I said proudly.
And my friends understood exactly what I meant.
My otherwise ginormous jogging stroller was agile enough, and compact enough, to make its way through a jam-packed store without breaking anything... Meaning I didn't have to shell out a bazillion more dollars to get a smaller second stroller.
This is nothing short of sweet victory for a new mommy... and only your fellow new mommies appreciate the magnitude of such success.

The Winds of Change

I recently promised -- on this blog --  that I wouldn't change who I am just because I had a kid.
Well, the truth is that I HAVE changed and there's no sense in denying it.
But I'm a firm believer in the notion that our children bring out the best in us... despite the fact that they can sometimes bring out the worst.
I started thinking about how Doug and I have changed since having a baby together...

The "Jean" Pool

Recently a few mommy friends of mine decided to enroll their babies in swim classes.
Don't get me wrong, I love the water and can't wait to get Mackenzie into the pool this summer.
But there's one caveat...
In the discussions I've had with other new mothers about baby swim classes, one question continues to arise: What does one wear to take their child swimming once they've given birth to said child?

Jump Ship? I Think Not!

You know what parents really mean when they say, "They grow up too fast"?
They're not implying that their children slip away from them too quickly.
What they're trying to say is that their sorry asses can't keep up.
It was only a few weeks ago that Mackenzie started pulling herself up in the crib, requiring us Doug to lower it to the mid-level position.
But by 6 p.m. Friday night we were once again in the same boat, with Mackenzie looking out over her crib as if she was Kate Winslet in the "I'm Flying" scene in Titanic (yes... boat, Titanic... pun intended, thank you).

If The Shoe Fits

My latest shopping excursion with Mackenzie landed us right smack in the middle of my pre-motherhood paradise... DSW.
OK, OK...
The handbag department at Nordstrom is my pre-motherhood paradise, but DSW is a close second...
Row upon row upon row of pretty shoes.
This time I was shopping for some very fancy....
SNEAKERS.

In Need of Pruning

For those who have loyally followed this blog from the beginning (thanks all ten of you!), it comes as no surprise that I want to talk about poop.
It's been awhile since I've discussed my daughter's BMs and there's good reason for that. I can't remember the last time we had a projectile poop shoot several feet across the room.  I don't even recall the last time I had to scrub poo out of a onesie.
This, my friends, is progress.
